If you use a virus protection program on your computer, please disable it before running Setup. You can re-enable the virus protection program after Setup is complete. Note -- If your virus-detection program starts automatically when you start Windows, you may be able to disable it by restarting Windows while holding down the SHIFT key. For details consult your virus-detection program's documentation. Running Setup in Quiet Mode --------------------------------------------------------- You can install the FrontPage Server Extensions at the command line by typing: servext.exe Simply appending the /q argument does not cause the Setup program to run in quiet mode (no interaction with the user). To run the FrontPage Server Extensions setup in quiet mode, type the following on the command line: setup /i fpse.msi /q No Standalone FrontPage Server Extensions Installation Available on Windows Terminal Server --------------------------------------------------------- You cannot install the FrontPage Server Extensions on a Windows Terminal Server computer from a standalone setup program. Instead, install FRONTPAGE 2000 SR-1, which includes the FrontPage Server Extensions. If you don't want to install FrontPage on your Web server computer, you can download an updated version of the FrontPage Server Extensions that supports installation on Windows Terminal Servers when this update is available. You can download the update at http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/frontpage _________________________________________________________ WORKING WITH MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE 2000 SR-1 SERVER EXTENSIONS Setting Permissions for Browse Access --------------------------------------------------------- On an Internet Information Services Web server on a NTFS partition, the Everyone group has Full Control access by default. Therefore, when you install the FrontPage Server Extensions, FrontPage detects that the Everyone group has Full Control access to the content folder and adds the Everyone group, with its permissions, to the FrontPage- extended web. At the same time, FrontPage reduces the permissions of the Everyone group to Browse access. Even though the Everyone group has been reduced to Browse access, it is nevertheless not recommended to set initial permissions this way. >>>To reset permissions so that everyone can browse your site and to set the initial permissions on your FrontPage-extended web: 1. In FrontPage, on the Tools menu, click Security and then click Permissions; on the Groups tab, select the Everyone group and then click Remove. 2. Click Apply; then click OK. 3. On the Tools menu, click Security and then click Permissions; on the Users tab, click the "Everyone has browse access" option. Note -- You can add any other users or groups with author or administer permissions to your Web as well. Uploading Files into Executable Folders --------------------------------------------------------- After upgrading to FRONTPAGE 2000 SR-1, FrontPage authors will not be able to upload files into executable folders. For security reasons, the default setting on FRONTPAGE 2000 SR-1- based webs does not allow authors to upload executable files into executable folders in a FrontPage-extended web. This setting protects servers so that authors do not inadvertently upload a program containing a bug or a virus. This restriction does not apply to Web servers on Windows 95 or Windows 98. On IIS 3.0 and Peer Web Services, this restriction limits the end users' ability to make a folder scriptable or executable, so ASP pages will not work. If your Web server is IIS 4.0 or 5.0, use the Internet Service Manager MMC snap-in to allow FrontPage authors to upload executables. For all other Web servers on Windows NT, use the Server Extensions Administrator to make this setting. Install MDAC 2.1 to Support FrontPage Database Integration --------------------------------------------------------- Installing the FRONTPAGE 2000 SR-1 client on the Web server computer installs all of the database drivers required to support FrontPage database integration. However, if you choose not to install the FrontPage client on the Web server computer, you can install the necessary drivers separately. The Microsoft Data Access Components you need (MDAC 2.1) are scheduled to be available at the same time Office 2000 is available. For more information about the availability of MDAC 2.1 and where to download it, see http://www.microsoft.com/data/21info.htm Set Up a Guest Account to Establish Connection to SQL Server After Clean Install with IIS3 and NT 4.0 --------------------------------------------------------- When using Microsoft SQL Server with Integrated or Mixed Security on a computer with Microsoft Internet Information Server, it may be necessary to access SQL Server from a guest account. You can set up a guest account to work around problems connecting an IIS computer to SQL Server on a separate computer over a trusted connection. For more information, go to the Microsoft KnowledgeBase at http://support.microsoft.com/support/ and read articles Q176380 and Q176377. _________________________________________________________ MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE 2000 SR-1 SERVER EXTENSIONS HELP Running Microsoft Management Console Help for Standalone FrontPage Server Extensions --------------------------------------------------------- Online Help for the FrontPage Server Extensions relies on files that are provided by Internet Explorer 5. If you install the FrontPage Server Extensions as part of an installation of Office 2000, Office provides the necessary files to run Help, but if you install the server extensions from a standalone setup program, these files are not available. To run Help for the FrontPage Server Extensions, you must install either Internet Explorer 5 or Office 2000. Alternatively, for information about administering FrontPage-extended webs--including using the MMC Snap-in for the FrontPage Server Extensions--see the FrontPage Server Extensions Resource Kit at http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/frontpage/wpp/serk/ _________________________________________________________ RESOURCES FOR FURTHER INFORMATION Server Extensions Resource Kit --------------------------------------------------------- The FRONTPAGE 2000 SR-1 Server Extensions include a full set of documentation: the Server Extensions Resource Kit.
