Installing PowerPoint

Error message 2355 or Corrupt Cabinet

If during installation of PowerPoint you receive error message number 2355 or the message text "Corrupt Cabinet," update the version of Windows Installer on your computer by running the appropriate executable file found on the installation CD. The following assumes that D:\ is your CD drive.

For Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Me) D:\FILES\SUPPORT\INSTMSI.EXE
For Windows NT 4.0 D:\FILES\SUPPORT\INSTMSIW.EXE
For Windows 2000 D:\FILES\SUPPORT\Q282879.EXE

After running the file, restart your computer and begin installation again.

Working with PowerPoint

Genius Assistant character no longer installed

PowerPoint no longer supports the Genius Assistant character. For customers who were using this Office Assistant and who are upgrading from PowerPoint 2000, the Assistant will be switched to the default character, Clippit. Upon upgrading, customers can select another Assistant by right-clicking the Assistant and then clicking Choose Assistant.

Combining reviewed presentations: unexpected behavior regarding embedded fonts

If you receive a presentation from another person for review, you can insert text with a font that is not available on the original author's computer and embed the font when saving so that the author can see your changes. However, when the author compares and merges the presentations and applies your changes, the text you inserted with a different font displays as boxes. This problem is easily fixed: either install the font on the author's computer or review the presentation using the same fonts as that of the presentation.

Only original author can combine reviewed presentations

When your reviewers have completed their reviews and sent them back to you, you can combine their presentations (called reviewer presentations) with your original presentation. However, reviewers can't start another review process with a presentation that is being reviewed, nor merge one reviewer presentation with another reviewer presentation.

Some transition effects don't work correctly without proper video card drivers

If animation effects don't work correctly during a slide show presentation, check with your video card manufacturer to make sure you have the latest driver installed and properly configured. If you still experience problems after updating your video card driver, you should disable the hardware acceleration options. On the Slide Show menu, click Set Up Show, and then on the Set Up Show dialog box, clear the Use hardware graphics acceleration check box.

Multilingual issues

PowerPoint and Indic languages

If you are enabling support for the Indic languages, it is recommended that you click Indic in the Default version of Microsoft Office list in the Microsoft Office Language Settings (on the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Microsoft Office Language Settings).

PowerPoint requires Microsoft Windows 2000 or later for Indic language support. Devanagari and Tamil script are fully supported with Windows 2000.

For more information on how to create a digital dashboard, download the Digital Dashboard Resource Kit (DDRK), which is available on the Microsoft Digital Dashboard Web site at:
